We hope these will add to the

been possible through our fund raising, particularly, the 50/50 half
time draw. Supporters participation in the draw and our other fund
raising is greatly appreciated and allows us to undertake improvements
for fans such as this.
Many thanks to

installation.
Users of the disabled group's kiosk will
appreciate that the TV there has been funded by that Group.
20th January News of Donation
With the
inclement weather threatening home matches in recent week we were aware
that the Football club had purchased a new set of pitch covers, which we
believe will be mandatory for clubs in the Football League very soon.
When the covers were first used, it was
apparent that the manpower required to put them on and take them off was
significant and time demanding.
In view of this, it was brought to our attention that a set of
rollers would not only speed up the operation but also demand less
physical effort. We have there agreed and provided the Football Club
with the funding amounting to £1200 to help them with the process of
pitch covering, by purchasing the necessary equipment
As
well as giving benefit to the Football Club at the time of using the
covers, they also help to provide a financial benefit reducing the costs
to the Football Club associated with late postponements and be of long
lasting assistance.
Fans
will also hopefully benefit as hopefully fewer matches will now be
called off when they have already made arrangements to attend, by
organising tickets, travel and perhaps even time off from their
employment.
Look out soon for news of further donation that will
directly benefit fans attending matches. We hope you will appreciate
this addition.
More news on this shortly.

04 January Away travel
I would like to
add a public note of thanks to Sally Anne Carter, Marc Walters and all
their volunteer helpers for the superb organisation of transporting
around 1000 of the travelling "Red army" of 6500 to the FA Cup match at
Fulham last Saturday.
It takes a significant amount of
organisation to run a trip like this and they are to be congratulated
for their achievement and ensuring that every one travelling got to the
game and got back safely afterwards.
If anyone wishes to express
their personal note of thanks , please email us at

them on.
I hope you enjoyed the day and will look to travel with

I Know I Am, I’m Sure I Am, I’m
Swindon ’Til I Die.”
Your
chance to feature in an exciting new book about your experiences of
supporting Swindon Town Football Club.
Way of life
Following Swindon Town becomes a way of life for many of us. At
the County Ground or travelling away we experience moments of elation
and exhilaration which become landmarks in our lives. But there are also
the low points of despair and disappointment when we feel that all our
hopes and dreams have been dashed or when even the very future of the
club has been in doubt.
Memories of supporters
A
new book is being published which will reflect the memories and
experiences of supporters both young and old. Players and managers may
come and go, but it is the fans who give the permanent character to a
club like Swindon Town. And so as a celebration of the supporters, this
book will reveal the fun, the absurd, the emotional, the peculiar or
unbelievable that is part and parcel of following The Robins.
Your stories
Who
are our record breakers? Who has the funniest Swindon tale? We want to
meet our longest standing fan! Who travels the farthest to get to home
matches? Who has seen more matches than anyone else? Get in touch so
these and many other stories get in to the new book. ‘Swindon ’Til I
Die’, real football stories from real football fans... Make sure your
memories are included! Storytelling sessions will also be held at the
club and in the local community as part of the memory-gathering process.
The first of which will be held in the Cecil Green Suite, Arkells Stand
at STFC on Tuesday 28 April between 6.30-8.30pm, so please feel free to
attend and share your stories.

Footynotes
The Ultimate Countdown of Football Trivia
By Chris Kamara and Richard Digance

Green Umbrella Publishing, RRP £9.99, Published: 13th October 2008, Hardback, ISBN: 978-1-906635-16-9
Combining the caustic humour of Sky Sports commentator, Chris Kamara, and the wit of stand-up comic and football fan, Richard Digance, Footynotes: The Ultimate Countdown of Football Trivia is one of the funniest books to be published in a long time.
This book is the result of many Friday evenings during the football season when Chris Kamara, preparing himself for commentaries the following day, and Richard Digance met up for a few beers and long chats about the sport they love and they began piecing together the content for this must-have for any footy fan. It features facts about games, players, teams, and just about everything else, this is then followed a relevant and invariably humorous 'Footynote’. For example:
Emile Heskey’s middle name is Ivanhoe
Footynote; His mother must have had a knight to remember
England goalkeeper David Seaman once injured himself reaching for his TV remote
Footynote; Probably dropped it
The book also includes a whole section of Footyrhymes - poems all about football, and 'Footygrams' – anagrams of players' names - can you guess who 'Tin ocean car' is?
Chris Kamara is a former professional footballer and manager but is now best known as a football analyst and commentator. Working for Sky Sports, Kamara appears on Sky Sports News as a reporter, often becoming overexcited and exclaiming "Unbelievable, Jeff!" to host, Jeff Stelling. He also hosts Goals On Sunday, a weekly roundup of the best goals and football chat. His weekly tour of football grounds on Soccer AM sees him perfectly placed as a trivia guru
Richard Digance is also best known for his use of words – either as a comic or during his regular appearances on the TV programme, Countdown. Richard enjoys the same passion for football having been a director of Yeovil Town and a lifelong fan of West Ham his place of birth. Digance is happy to make jokes at Kamara's expense, thus forming a comic partnership the equal of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy or Little and Large.
Footynotes: The Ultimate Countdown of Football Trivia is packed full of the best footie trivia which is sure to enhance the readers standing at dinner parties, on football terraces and at pub quizzes.
11th October Important Clarification. The
match announcer inadvertently said today at the Huddersfield that the
new PA system at the County Ground had been funded by the Supporters
Trust. We wish to make it clear that the new PA in the Ground has been fully funded solely by Swindon Town Supporters Club from its own fund raising actives. Details of which can be found elsewhere on this web site The
Supporters Trust are in fact a separate organisation, not affiliated to
the Supporters Club, although both organisations share a common
interest in Swindon Town Football Club. (The
Supporters Club are also aware that some improvement in the PA is still
required in the Don Roger's stand where clarity has been an issue when
the stand is full. This continues to be under investigation and we are
working closely with the football club to ensure the clarity issue is
resolved,) As well as funding the PA the Supporters Club have also since the start of the season funded improvements to catering kiosks through out the ground as well as the large number of improvements to the legends lounge, some of which were witnessed at the Huddersfield game, for the first time.
Why not pop in at the next home match and enjoy those for yourself. You
only need to produce your home match ticket to gain entry, but it can
get full to capacity on busy match days - so the earlier the better !! We
will continue to work in improving the environment for fans coming to
the County Ground and are always willing to listen and consider ideas
from fans for improvement to the fabric of the Stadium to help improve
your enjoyment of the match day. Please e-mail us at enquiries@swindontownsupportersclub.com with any suggestions

24th July
The Supporters Club are delighted to make the following announcement that is intended to deliver a better refreshment service for fans when visiting the County Ground.
Roger Bunce Chairman comments :
“The
Supporters Club has naturally been aware about the issues relating to
catering at the ground for quite some time, receiving comments from
both our members and other fans.
For
several months now we have been in dialogue with the Football Club over
how to improve the offering to fans on a match day, both in terms of
speed of delivery and quality of service and food provided.
As
a result of these discussions, I am delighted to say that the
Supporters Club have committed to a very significant donation, which
will allow for a number of improvements to be made to the food outlets
around the ground and in the Supporters Club legends lounge aimed at
bringing an all round better offering.
The
Football Club have always had in mind that the target date for these
improvements would be for the first league game of the new season and
we hope that fans will notice the new approach, which will not just
benefit fans, but the Football Club as well.
This
project reinforces our working partnership with the Football Club aimed
at improving matters at the County Ground for all fans. We hope to make
further announcements shortly.”
1st July
After a quiet news period we have now got a few things happening as we move in to the pre season month of July.
Firstly, members renewal forms have been posted and should arrive shortly.
Next
up - details of the coming season's opening hours have been published
on the away travel section together with details of the first two trips
of the season.
And finally for today details of John Gorman's official autobiography
have reached us. In line with our theme for the Supporters Legends
lounge, here are the details of the the forthcoming production and as
our manager in the Premier league we are sure this will be of interest
to fans.
Green Umbrella Publishing are publishing the official autobiography of player turned manager, John Gorman.
Gorman's
story has been eagerly awaited. In addition to a lifetime in the
roller-coaster world of football, within a short period he was faced
the tragedy of his wife dying of cancer, losing one job and walking
away from another.
Vanessa
Gardener, Green Umbrella Publishing Director and long-time football
fan, said: John is a familiar face on the football field but few people
know the real John. His autobiography will have readers laughing one
minute and crying the next."
John
began his football career in the Celtic youth side before a six-year
spell with Carlisle and three years with Spurs. When injury forced him
out of the side, Later he moved to America and played four seasons with
the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Returning
to England, Gorman began his coaching career with lowly Gillingham –
even driving the bus to matches. He had a spell with Leyton Orient
before teaming up with his long-time friend, Glenn Hoddle, to manage
Swindon Town. When Hoddle left, John took charge but the side struggled
in its sole season in The Premier League.
Despite
being Scottish, John rejoined Glenn Hoddle as his assistant when Hoddle
became England manager in 1996, during this eventful period John worked
with several of the most talented footballers in the country, including
Paul Gascoigne who famously missed out on going to the World Cup in
1998 and David Beckham who saw red as England crashed out of the finals
at the hands of Argentina. After Hoddle's dismissal following
controversial comments in the press, Gorman became assistant manager at
Reading, before working with Hoddle at Southampton and Tottenham.
He
then had a run as assistant or caretaker manager with West Bromwich
Albion, Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham. He finally achieved success
when he returned to Wycombe Wanderers as manager – seeing the team
unbeaten in a record 21 consecutive league games.
In
February 2006, his wife, Myra, died. Having parted company with Wycombe
Wanderers, John was appointed manager of Northampton Town – a job he
walked out of after just 22 games, still affected by the loss of his
wife. John is currently Chief Scout at Southampton and a highly
respected individual in football.
John's
autobiography will be published in hardback in September and will sell
for £16.99. Fittingly, it will be called Gory Tales.

One
further piece of news that we are delighted to bring you is that the

us raise even more money through this scheme then please contact Mavis

Latest news 2nd April
The Supporters Club are delighted to announce that we are committing £10000 to the Football Club to pay for the full cost of the Centre of Excellence to compete once again in the International Milk Cup competition in Northern Ireland.
With this in mind Roger Bunce our Chairman comments :-
“The
Supporters Club have a long and proud record of supporting youth
development at the County Ground and much of our fund raising, and in
its entirety our Pounds for Points scheme, have gone towards helping
the funding aspect of the Football club. The development of home grown
talent is one, which I believe the new administration wish to foster,
so it falls in nicely within their future plans.
Over
recent seasons the youth teams have won the Football League Alliance
trophy, made national headlines in the FA Youth Cup and had great
success in the Northern Ireland Milk Cup tournament returning with
Trophies as well player of the tournament awards.
We
would like to think that our financial support has in some way has
helped those tasked with and achieving success at that level just a
little easier, whilst at the same time developing those players for a
potential breakthrough to first team football and in recent seasons
there have been some good examples.
We
have already supported the travel costs of the Centre of Excellence to
the Northern Ireland tournament for a number of years but I am now
delighted to announce that we will now not only be covering that cost,
but also the full cost of the trip amounting to some £10000.
This
level of support, of course would not be achieved without a lot of hard
work from my committee, our “helpers” and every supporter that has
participated in each of our initiatives and my thanks go to everyone
for their support.”
The
formal presentation of the funds will take place at half time on
Saturday during the Oldham match. With the Supporters also being match
sponsors and also paying for two mascots at the game this match is
designated as the Supporters Club Super Saturday.

F.A. Youth cup quarter final match against Newcastle.
We are delighted to announce that the Supporters Club will be match sponsor for this game.
Over the years we have supported youth development at the club in many ways and particularly in recent times, through the pounds for points fund raising.
We are delighted to see this seasons progress to the quarter final of this prestigious competition, where the other quarter finalists include Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. This will really give the youth development work at the County ground, well deserved and National recognition.
Half time draw - Overseas winner !!
At the Morecombe match the winner was Mr R Francis who pays for the draw by regular bankers standing order.
The only address we had for him was in Switzerland so we wrote to his bank and asked them to pay the money into his account and advise him that the funds were from his win in our draw.
Imagine our surprise this week to receive a letter of thanks from him from Zambia !! where he is currently doing voluntary work through the VSO scheme at a community school. Not only did he send us a thank you, but said that his win of £381 would be used to support the community school project. A fantastic and generous gesture, on behalf of this town fan.

Important Supporters Club news
Apologies for the delay in the update of the half time draw result for the Carlisle match - this is now rectified.

F A Cup tickets - May we remind Supporters Club members that they have have ticket priority, after season ticket holders, through membership of the supporters club for any all ticket game at the County Ground.
It is important that you listen to Football Club announcements over timing of the priorities for ticket sales, should we get through round two and draw a plum home tie in round three. Tickets would be limited to one per member under this scheme. Membership cards would have to be produced at the time of buying and to facilitate the process, members names and membership number would also be provided to the Swindon Town FC ticket office.
No particular seat is guaranteed and membership applications after the conclusion of one round are only eligible for inclusion in this priority scheme once the next round after joining has been completed.
For any non members wishing to particiate, you have up to kick off of the Morecombe match to secure priority boooking for a potential round three home match.
Legends days -It was great to see Sam Burton at the Carlisle game and the next legends game is at the Bury game - so watch out for stars of the late '60's early '70's including Arthur Horsefield, who famously scored a hatrick for us (from memory) against the mighty Juventus in the Anglo Italian cup as well as players from our famous league cup win in 1969 including John Trollope.

Annual General meeting
The Annual General meeting took place on Thursday 21st September.
There were no proposed rule changes.
A brief summary of the main points of the meeting are detailed below.
Chairman Roger Bunce outllined activities for the last year thanking "retiring" commmittee members Eileen Richman and Wendy Beaver for their work as membership secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Sarah Bennett, Iris Higgs and Mike Dew were elected to serve on the committee, with Sarah taking the vacant role of membership, which she has been filling on a co-opted basis since the start of the season. Existing vice Chair Anne Alder will take on the additional responsibilities of Treasurer. All other officers will remain unchanged.
Roger painted a positive picture of the previous seasons activities, leaving the Supporters Club, financially in a very positive position. The accounts were formally adopted. He also said that this season has also started well in terms of the fund raising initiatives and confirmed the next AGM will again be held in September next year, on a date to be fixed later.
Congratulations to the centre of excellence team for reaching the final and winning the Milk cup in Ireland against international competiton. As one of the major sponsors of youth development we are delighted to see the boys recording this success which we feel endorses our policy of promoting youth develpoment. If you would like to help us extend our level of support, then why not visit the pounds for points information page under "fund raising schemes".
Cessna accident. We are sure everyone and particularly all town fans, were shocked to hear the news, as it filtered through after the recent plane crash. It is encouraging that news of most of the injured is now a little more positive and we hope it is not too long ,before Mark Devlin, his son Stanley, Mike Sullivan and Bill Power are well enough, to be able to return to the County Ground. Our thoughts continue to remain with the pilot and his family, as he still remains in a serious condition. Should any one would like us to pass on a message of good wishes then please use the contact given (enquiries@swindontownsupportersclub) in the "contact us" tab under the communication heading.
