24th July
The Supporters Club are delighted to make the following announcement that is intended to deliver a better refreshment service for fans when visiting the County Ground.
Roger Bunce Chairman comments :
“The Supporters Club has naturally been aware about the issues relating to catering at the ground for quite some time, receiving comments from both our members and other fans.
For several months now we have been in dialogue with the Football Club over how to improve the offering to fans on a match day, both in terms of speed of delivery and quality of service and food provided.
As a result of these discussions, I am delighted to say that the Supporters Club have committed to a very significant donation, which will allow for a number of improvements to be made to the food outlets around the ground and in the Supporters Club legends lounge aimed at bringing an all round better offering.
The Football Club have always had in mind that the target date for these improvements would be for the first league game of the new season and we hope that fans will notice the new approach, which will not just benefit fans, but the Football Club as well.
This project reinforces our working partnership with the Football Club aimed at improving matters at the County Ground for all fans. We hope to make further announcements shortly.”
1st July
After a quiet news period we have now got a few things happening as we move in to the pre season month of July.
Firstly, members renewal forms have been posted and should arrive shortly.
Next up - details of the coming season's opening hours have been published on the away travel section together with details of the first two trips of the season.
And finally for today details of John Gorman's official autobiography have reached us. In line with our theme for the Supporters Legends lounge, here are the details of the the forthcoming production and as our manager in the Premier league we are sure this will be of interest to fans.
Green Umbrella Publishing are publishing the official autobiography of player turned manager, John Gorman.
Gorman's story has been eagerly awaited. In addition to a lifetime in the roller-coaster world of football, within a short period he was faced the tragedy of his wife dying of cancer, losing one job and walking away from another.
Vanessa Gardener, Green Umbrella Publishing Director and long-time football fan, said: John is a familiar face on the football field but few people know the real John. His autobiography will have readers laughing one minute and crying the next."
John began his football career in the Celtic youth side before a six-year spell with Carlisle and three years with Spurs. When injury forced him out of the side, Later he moved to America and played four seasons with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Returning to England, Gorman began his coaching career with lowly Gillingham – even driving the bus to matches. He had a spell with Leyton Orient before teaming up with his long-time friend, Glenn Hoddle, to manage Swindon Town. When Hoddle left, John took charge but the side struggled in its sole season in The Premier League.
Despite being Scottish, John rejoined Glenn Hoddle as his assistant when Hoddle became England manager in 1996, during this eventful period John worked with several of the most talented footballers in the country, including Paul Gascoigne who famously missed out on going to the World Cup in 1998 and David Beckham who saw red as England crashed out of the finals at the hands of Argentina. After Hoddle's dismissal following controversial comments in the press, Gorman became assistant manager at Reading, before working with Hoddle at Southampton and Tottenham.
He then had a run as assistant or caretaker manager with West Bromwich Albion, Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham. He finally achieved success when he returned to Wycombe Wanderers as manager – seeing the team unbeaten in a record 21 consecutive league games.
In February 2006, his wife, Myra, died. Having parted company with Wycombe Wanderers, John was appointed manager of Northampton Town – a job he walked out of after just 22 games, still affected by the loss of his wife. John is currently Chief Scout at Southampton and a highly respected individual in football.
John's autobiography will be published in hardback in September and will sell for £16.99. Fittingly, it will be called Gory Tales.
15th June
The last 6 weeks have seen little activity on the web site as we took our close season break. As the season draws closer we will be gradually getting the site ready for the new season, with last season's activity being removed in to the archive section.
May we remind members and potential new members that membership is already available for the forthcoming season and application forms may be down loaded from the Application form section of this web site.
One further piece of news that we are delighted to bring you is that the pounds for points pledges for the forthcoming season have already reached £44 per point which is a fantastic start. If you wish to help us raise even more money through this scheme then please contact Mavis Knight whose details appear within that section of the "fund raising" area on this website.
